Tehran : Tehran’s Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf is among eleven candidates of best world mayors, Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported Monday quoting an English newspaper as saying.
Mohammad-Baqer achieved this name following the recent public voting for World Mayor 2008, the local daily quoted the worldmayor.com as saying.
More than 200,000 people from around the world cast their votes from January 01 to June 30 and commented on mayors who they thought worthy of the 2008 Award.
With the 50 long-listed mayors have made significant contributions to the well-being of their communities, eleven of them, including Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, stood out in the terms of votes and persuasiveness of supporting statements received.
The winner of the 2008 World Mayor Award and other results will be announced on 14 October 2008.
Among other countries competing with Iran are South Africa, Venezuela, Sweden, Philippines, Germany, USA, Brazil, Guatemala, and Switzerland.
