D8 can be pioneer for world peace, justice: Ahmadinejad

Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the eight Islamic developing countries or D8 could be the pioneer for world peace and justice, IRNA news agency reported.

The D8 includes Islamic countries of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks at the opening secession of the group’s sixth summit in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur Tuesday.

He said: “The D8 can present a model for fair and peaceful activities to the world.”

Tehran is ready to help the grouping in the economic, financial, environmental, tourism and energy fields, Ahmadinejad said.

He expressed Iran’s help in drafting a 10-year vision plan for the D8 as well as strengthening its secretariat.

The Iranian president urged the D8 countries to make use of their potentials to generate more energy, the report said.

The D8 secretariat is based in Istanbul, Turkey. The group’s last summit was held in the Indonesian resort Island of Bali May 13, 2006.
