An ISAF announcement here said the soldiers were on patrol in Uruzgan province when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED).

Four soldiers were injured in the blast. One of them later succumbed to his injuries, said the military statement.

Mostly Dutch soldiers are stationed in Afghanistan as part of the NATO’s peacekeeping and counter-insurgency operations.

“We are saddened by this brave soldier’s death and our deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones,” said ISAF spokesperson Captain Michael Finney.

Under ISAF policy, names and nationality of a casualty is not released prior to the relevant national authority doing so.

On Tuesday, the NATO force has announced the death of one of its soldiers in a similar blast in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Kunar, bordering neighboring Pakistan.

Four more soldiers were injured in the explosion caused by an IED.
