“We are ready to provide all needed support to improve services in the camp,” the King said, when he met a team from the “We Are All Jordan Youth Commission” at the camp Monday.

The King reiterated that demands and concerns of the camp is one of the top issues on the agenda, and projects will be carried out in coordination between the government and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Jordan is keen to improve services for Palestinian refugees in the 13 camps across the Kingdom, in cooperation with UNRWA, which supervises the camps.

This goes parallel with a firm political stand affirming their right of return.

For their part, the young people at the camp expressed appreciation for the efforts by the King to improve their living standards, noting that many projects he had ordered implemented were already underway.

Construction is underway for projects which the King ordered to be carried out in the camp including bus station, cemetery, multipurpose hall, rehabilitation centre for the handicapped and comprehensive healthcare centre.

They also briefed the King on the demands of citizens in the camp, who suffer from severe traffic congestion in the camp’s main street, crowded schools and health centres, and environmental problems.

The royal gestures also included increasing the number of families benefiting from a project to renovate houses of poor families in the camp.

The number of registered Palestinian refugees in Jordan is 1.9 million, 400,000 of them living in the refugee camps.
