Lagos : Nigeria will sue Europe for about $100 billion for ecological damages from irresponsible nuclear waste disposal, a local specialized organization reported Monday.
The Nigerian Nuclear Security Agency proved that several European mining companies, especially from Great Britain, unsafely disposed of radioactive materials in the central state of Plateau.
The Plateau government estimates that those foreign companies exploited about 5,000 mines and the waste they produced still threatens the area.
Plateau authorities requested the presence of experts from European countries involved in the episode to confirm the environmental damage.
If the demand is not recognized, the Nigerian government will take the case to international court.
