Ahmed, who represents Allahabad’s Phoolpur constituency, has been on the run since the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came to power in Uttar Pradesh in May last year. He was arrested in Delhi in February. The Samajwadi Party expelled Ahmed earlier this year.

Over 150 criminal cases are lodged against him, including the murder of BSP legislator Raju Pal.

The hotel is on on KN Katju road and Ahmad owns a part of it. Tuesday’s action was taken on the directive of District Magistrate Rajeev Agrawal, officials said.

A team of police and district officials sealed eight rooms of the building under Ahmad’s possession. The police got the rooms vacated and removed the belongings of the people residing there.

One officer said the team would continue the drive Wednesday against other properties owned by Ahmad.
