A press statement read out by the council president, Vietnman, said the council members reiterated their position that “no terrorist act can reverse the path toward peace, democracy and reconstruction in Afghanisatan” because it is supported by the people, the government and the international community.

The statement said the members underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this “reprehensible” act of terrorism to justice, and urged all states to cooperate actively with the Afghan authorities in this regard.

It stressed the need for all member states to combat by all means threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts, urging them, however, to comply, while doing so, with all their obligations under international human rights law.
