In order for the agreement to come into effect, parliament and presidential endorsement is required. However, the nod is not guaranteed because of great opposition to the defense system.

The Green Party is calling for the postponement of the inking of the agreement until the new US president is elected, while integrating it into the NATO’s program so as not to make it a bilateral agreement.

The US seeks the installation of tracking radar in the Czech Republic and interceptor rockets in Poland to shield itself and its allies from attack by what it referred to as “rogue states”.

Russia is also opposed to the missile defense shield system.
