According to UP Urdu Development Organization that challenged the High Court order, says a report in Urdu daily Rashtriya Sahara, the court had observed that there was no need to publish these documents in Urdu because they are not public documents. The organization challenged the verdict in the Apex Court which has attached the appeal with civil appeal no. 459/1997.

In the appeal no. 459/1997 the petitioner has demanded repeal of the UP Official Language (Amendment) Act 1989. Through this act Urdu was given second official language status.

A five-judge constitution bench will hear the case from 15th July.
