New Delhi : Two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an affidavit against her in a disproportionate assets case, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Saturday came down heavily on the Congress and arch rival Samajwadi Party and alleged they were influencing the working of the premier investigating agency.
The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief also flayed the CBI director, accusing him of working under the influence of the central government.
“My sources say that since the alliance of the Samajwadi Party and Congress, the CBI director goes to the home of a senior Samajwadi Party leader and is working on his directions,” said Maywati at a press conference here.
The BSP supremo said that the CBI had acted illegally in filing an affidavit against her regarding the alleged disproportionate wealth amassed by her.
“The CBI director has been used against me as the report of the investigating officer is in my favour,” Mayawati said.
She said the CBI was being pressurised to frame a “false case” against her as part of the Congress-Samajwadi Party political “deal”.
She also accused the CBI of distributing copies of the affidavit to various media houses before it could reach the chief minister’s lawyers.
The CBI had told the Supreme Court July 10 that it had “sufficient” evidence to prosecute Mayawati in a disproportionate assets case registered against her five years ago.
