Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra Saturday ordered a major shake-up in the state administration by transferring more than 140 senior bureaucrats and police officers.
In his first major administrative decision after Governor’s Rule was imposed in the state, Vohra transferred 45 senior principal secretaries, commissioner/secretaries and other officers at the district magistrate level, besides as many as 96 senior police officers including some deputy inspectors general, and senior superintendents of districts.
Transferring some senior-most Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, Vohra ordered that S.V Bhave, principal resident commissioner based in New Delhi, would now be posted as financial commissioner (coordination), New Delhi, with S.S. Sahni replacing him.
The governor also changed the district magistrates of Srinagar, Badgam, Kupwara, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Anantnag, Leh and Jammu districts.
More than 90 police officers in charge of various districts, as also in the security and intelligence wings, have also been transferred.
Vohra had visited the civil secretariat and the police headquarters here Friday and said he would be attending his office in the civil secretariat daily to remain available for immediate decision making and to make the administration more responsive and people friendly here.
The state was placed under governor’s rule earlier this week.
