Colombo : A high-ranking British official has arrived in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on a three-day visit, officials said Tuesday.
Lord Malloch Brown, the British Foreign Office junior minister responsible for Asia and Africa arrived in Colombo late Monday night and held talks with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse Tuesday morning, officials from the British embassy to Sri Lanka said.
“The minister will discuss the human rights situation in Sri Lanka in particular ways of strengthening mechanisms for monitoring and investigating allegations of human rights abuses,” the British embassy to Sri Lanka said in press release.
Brown is also scheduled to meet representatives of the All Party Representatives Committee, an all political party panel formulated to arrive at consensus to solve the island’s long drawn-out separatist conflict with Tamil Tiger rebels.
