Ranchi : Jharkhand transport secretary Sajjal Chakravarty, a 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer convicted in a multi-million fodder scam, complained of chest pain in the court Tuesday when the sentence was to be pronounced.
Chakravarty was brought to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court where he complained of chest pain. On the directive of the CBI court, Chakravarty was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.
Special CBI court Judge V.K. Sahay Monday convicted 64 people in a case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.390 million from the Chaibasa treasury in 1993-1994.
Chakravarty was Deputy Commissioner of Chaibasa district when the money was fraudulently withdrawn. There were 76 people accused in this case. During the trial, five accused died, four turned approver, two accepted their crime and one is absconding.
