The university in Coimbatore has entered into an agreement with the Huaihua University to translate the entire gamut of the 85-year-old DMK patriarch’s writings, said Bharathiar University vice-chancellor G. Thiruvasagam.

Inaugurating the university’s correspondence courses at the Yadava College near Madurai Monday, Thiruvasagam said the proposal had come from the Chinese institute.

The university had earlier translated into English Karunanidhi’s “Tholkappia Poonga”. Now it has got the author’s nod to translate all his writings into English.

“The English versions will then be sent to the Huaihua University for translation into Chinese.” the vice-chancellor said. “The sale of the books would bring profits,” he added.

Karunanidhi has written an annotation of poet saint Tiruvalluvar’s “Thirukkural” to simplify it for the common people. The DMK leader has also written scripts for films, poems and articles in party organ Murasoli, apart from several speeches.

A five-member team from the Huaihua University had visited Bharathiar University in November 2007 to facilitate Chinese students in pursuing courses in English, linguistics and computer science in the Indian university. The team was headed by the university’s chancellor and president Xia li fa.
