Khartoum : The government of Sudan rejected charges filed by the International Penal Court Prosecutor against President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir for alleged genocide in Darfur.
Information and Communication Minister Al-Zahawi Ibrahim Malik said his country will no hesitate to defend its sovereignty, unity, security and territorial integrity, adding that Khartoum does not recognize that court.
The Council of Ministers led by Al-Bashir decided Sunday not to negotiate with the Court and will ignore any verdict that prosecutor, Argentinean Luis Moreno-Ocampo, may announce.
Moreno-Ocampo requested Monday an arrest warrant for the Sudanese president for genocide and crimes against humanity allegedly committed along the past five years of slaughter in Darfur.
The charges sustain that Al-Bashir “plotted and executed the cleansing of three main ethnic groups in Darfur (Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa) that is politically motivated anti-rebel alibi with genocidal intentions.
Diplomatic sources reminded that genocide charges are the most serious the international court may judge, and from its 2002 foundation would force its regulations against an active head of states for the first time.
The Sudanese Council of Ministers called the international community to help restore peace and stability in Darfur, and stop the irresponsible complot and political extortion.
It also recalls that the Darfur issue is of national concern so the government works to settle it without impositions no meddling.
