Gupta said the meeting reviewed the progress of implementation of the integrated action plans aimed at curbing Maoist influence in these states.

“In overall terms, visible improvement has been seen in various parameters relating to the security situation in the Naxal-affected states this year as compared to last year barring a few major incidents,” Gupta told reporters after the meeting.

“It was felt that substantial progress has been achieved on the infrastructure front. The connectivity situation in these districts is being given focused attention. On the issue of filling up of vacancies in the state police, the concerned states have initiated action for filling up existing vacancies and raising specialised forces,” he added.

The meeting coincided with a Maoist attack on a police vehicle in Orissa Wednesday, killing 24 policemen.

On June 29, Maoists attacked a boat ferrying 66 Greyhound personnel who were returning to Andhra Pradesh after taking part in a joint anti-Maoist operation with the Orissa police.
