Cabinet approves India-Brazil extradition treaty

New Delhi : The cabinet Thursday approved the signing of an extradition treaty between India and Brazil and authorised its ratification.

“The treaty was signed April 15. It would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders, and other criminals from and to Brazil,” Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said after a cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

India has extradition treaties with upwards of 20 countries including the US, Britain, Germany, Canada, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
