Kathmandu : Nominations of the president candidate from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) Thursday gathered support from Madhesi parties, leading to surpassing simple majority in the Constituent Assembly (CA).
Three Madhesh-based parties have decided to support CPN-M candidate, republican leader Ramraja Prasad Singh for the post of president.
The support of three largest Madhes based parties Madhesi People’s Rights Forum, Terai Madhesh Democratic Party and Nepal Sadbhawana Party is sufficient for Singh to win the presidential election by the simple majority.
“Republican leader Ramraja Prasad Singh is the presidential candidate from the whole Madhesi community. The top three Madhesh-based parties would have total support to him in the presidential election,” spokesperson of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum and a CA member B.P. Yadav said.
As the Madhesh-based parties and the CPN-M have formed a new equation on Nepal’s politics the Madhesi parties said they have not made any consensus to join in a CPN-M led government.
CPN-M emerged as the single largest party in the CA after elections started on April 10.
