Hyderabad : The glittering original trophy of junior Asia Cup hockey was back with the organisers, after the suspended Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president K.P.S. Gill returned it just in time, before the title-clash here Friday.
The trophy was with Gill and he reportedly had refused to hand it to the ad-hoc committee members after he was sacked and the IHF was dissolved by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). India are the defending champions and won the trophy in Pakistan, 2004.
Gill though had said that he would give it to the Hyderabad Hockey Association (HHA).
The organisers were in a fix and were ready with the a new trophy in case the original trophy did not arrive from Delhi in time.
“A member of HHA flew to Delhi to collect the trophy and came back Thursday with the original one,” the organisers said.
