Baghdad : The Iraqi National Security Council, which includes leading political powers and decision-makers in the country, held a meeting on Saturday, to discuss the latest developments in negotiations with US officials regarding a long-term framework agreement between both countries.
The meeting headed by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani took two hours, during which viewpoints from several parliamentary and government officials were raised.
At the end of the meeting, Head of the presidential office Naseer Al-Aani in a press briefing said that the National Security Council met in order to discuss an extremely important issue affecting Iraq and its people.
He continued to say that the council studied the US agreement issue very closely, along with representatives from the US, chosen by the council itself.
Al-Aani described the Iraqi task-force in charge of the event, as being “cohesive,” relating to issues explicitly with the American side, aiming for the sovereignty of Iraq.
