He ploughed into traffic in central Jerusalem in an incident mirroring the recent attack in which three Israelis were killed in the city in early July.

An Israeli settler who happened to be in the scene of the attack shot and killed the driver, the Israeli radio said Tuesday.

The Israeli radio noted that the 19 Israelis had medium to minor injuries, adding that an Israeli protest took place after the attack which called for the expulsion of Palestinians with Israeli identities.

The Palestinian radio confirmed the incident.

Israeli forces sealed off the area and rushed into a sweeping operation.

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the attack.

In a presidential statement he said that they condemn such terrorist acts, particularly on civilians.

“This was a deliberate attack which we condemn, we do not accept, and hurt peace efforts in general,” the statement said.

Abbas also indicated his absolute rejection to targeting civilians.
