Kathmandu : Nepal’s outgoing Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will tender his resignation to newly-elected President Ram Baran Yadav after his official swearing-in Wednesday, a media report said.
Yadav would be officially sworn-in late Wednesday afternoon in Shital Niwas, the office of the president in capital Kathmandu.
According to nepalnews.com, Koirala will tender his resignation to the president to pave the way for the formation of a new government.
Koirala earlier announced his resignation at a cabinet meeting here Wednesday.
After the prime minister’s resignation (to be formally accepted by the president), the interim government would also be dissolved.
However, the current cabinet would continue to function as a “caretaker government” till a new government assumes office.
Ram Baran Yadav from the Nepali Congress party was elected Nepal’s first president Monday. Yadav succeeds deposed king Gyanendra whose ouster last month spelt the end of the 239-year-old Shah dynasty in Nepal.
The Constituent Assembly Saturday declared Madhesi People’s Rights Forum candidate, Parmananda Jha, the first vice president of Nepal.
