“Somnath Chattterjee has breached the party’s disciplines,” Bose told reporters here at the CPI-M state headquarters on Alimuddin Street.

He said every CPI-M cadre has to abide by the party guidelines.

Queried about the issue of Somnath Chatterjee’s resignation from the Lok Sabha, Bose earlier said no CPI-M MP could hold the chair since the left parties withdrew support from the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

“We were supporting the Congress-led UPA alliance at the Centre from outside. But now when we are opposing the government, our MP should not be in the speaker’s chair,” Bose said in a press conference Tuesday evening.

The four Left parties, which are constituents of the state’s ruling Left Front – Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) – withdrew support from the Manmohan Singh government protesting its decision to go ahead with the India-US nuclear deal.

The UPA, however, sailed through the Lok Sabha trust vote Tuesday by 19 votes.
