Dubai : Emirates Airline has announced a series of initiatives as part of its efforts to ensure environmentally clean flight operation by reducing emissions and waste, WAM reported Friday.
The programme called Environment, unveiled Thursday, includes adoption of a new policy by the luxury airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to foster staff awareness of clean environment and increased recycling of resources and training of personnel.
A new section on its website outlines the airline’s environment policies, obtaining practices and information on flight schedule that ensures fuel efficiency and emissions reduction, the Emirates release said.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, the airline’s chairman and chief executive said: “Emirates is investing billions of dollars in new aircraft that demonstrate our environmental leadership through the most fuel and emission-efficient fleet possible”.
Environment will focus on further reducing fuel consumption and emissions by reducing, recycling and reusing resources, he said.
Andrew Parker, Emirates’ senior vice president: “While much of this work has been underway for many years, the new programme will provide a strategic underpinning to further improve our environmental performance.”
Emirates next year will open one of the world’s most environmentally ambitious conservation resorts, the 4000-acre Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa in the Blue Mountains in Australia.
The project involves restoring vast tracts of distressed farmland back to their original state and reintroducing endangered fauna and flora. The $69 million resort will occupy about one percent of the total land mass.
