Hokkaido (Japan) : Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, who had a sublime first round, found birdies hard to come by in the second round and slipped with a two-over 74 that saw him at tied 24th at the midway stage of the Nagashima Shigeo Invitational Sega Sammy Cup here Friday.
Jeev was lying fourth overnight after his first round of five-under 67 had just one birdie and it came on 17th hole and he dropped shots on first, 10th and 18th. He also missed a lot of fairways and took 32 putts, including a three-putt on last hole at The North Country Golf Club in Hokkaido, which is known for its unique grass.
Sushi Ishigaki (67) and Tatsuhiko Takahashi (69) shared the lead after the second round at eight-under 136 each.
The star of the second round was Ishigaki, a former Asian Tour player, who had six birdies in his first 13 holes and then dropped his only bogey on the day on the 18th.
Keiichiro Fukabori moved within a shot of the lead after a 69. Another stroke behind at 138 were Hideto Tanihara (70), Ryoken Kawagishi (71), Han Lee of the United States (71) and Australia’s Craig Jones.
Teenage pro Ryo Ishikawa made the cut for the third time in nine starts this year after shooting a two-under 142, which placed him in a group tied for 34th.
