Baghdad : A bomb blast killed at least eight and wounded 24 in northern Iraq where national and foreign forces continued with the raids, to neutralize the rebels’ activity.
A security source highlighted that a woman attired in with a belt with explosives detonated it, killing one commander of the popular committees or Councils Sahwa and seven other people in Baquba city, capital of Diyala northeastern province.
Those councils are made up of groups fighting Al-Qaeda network in coordination with foreign occupying troops and Iraqi government forces, which operate under the Tribal leaders’ command in provinces like Al-Anbar, Diyala, Ninive and Salah al-Din.
Iraqi troops supported by US soldiers are still carrying out arrests in different parts of the country, as part of a campaign to capture the rebels.
The police in Wassit province, 93 miles from southeastern Baghdad, reported that two suspicious men were arrested and that a handcrafted bomb of 44 pounds was deactivated in al-Gardhiya district, south of Kut administrative center.
Three other people were captured in a searching operation in western Kirkuk, 155 miles northeast from this capital, while illegal weapons and stolen vehicles were seized in an operation by the security forces.
Early this month, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Iraq for the first time since 1990, and promised cooperation in different fields, including border cooperation and confrontation with the Kurdistan Workers Party.
