New Delhi : In the wake of eight serial bomb blasts across Gujarat’s principal city of Ahmedabad Saturday, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal convened an emergency meeting of the top police brass to review the security measures in the city.
“The commissioner has just called a meeting to review the security across the city and a high alert has been sounded in the city,” Joint Commissioner (Special Cell) Karnail Singh told IANS.
Serial blasts have rocked two cities – Bangalaore and Ahmedabad – in the past two days sending the security and intelligence agencies into a tizzy.
“We have taken all the anti-terror measures, especially the routes on where there is movement of Kawariyas (Shiva devotees). Security has been stepped up at railway and metro stations, cinema halls and other busy areas.
“We have asked people not to panic and send information to the police if they spot any suspicious vehicle or activity,” Singh added.
Additional police personnel were deployed, along with bomb disposal squads, at Delhi Metro stations, cinema halls, railway stations and inter-state bus terminals.
Patrolling across the city and on its borders has been intensified.
“Extra security cover has been extended to all the religious places, including the Jama Masjid, and the Akshardham and Iskcon temples,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.
The police have set up barricades at various traffic intersections and sniffer dogs were deployed at railway stations.
