Bhopal : A scheme to provide economic security to over 7.4 million labourers in Madhya Pradesh seems to be a non-starter with only 9,750 labourers benefiting from it. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is unhappy with the progress and has asked for stepping up the pace.
Expressing displeasure over the slow pace of Mukhyamantri Mazdoor Suraksha Yojana’s implementation at a meeting held here Friday, Chouhan said laxity will not be tolerated.
At present there are 7,400,670 landless labourers in the state including 3,518,368 males and 3,882,302 female agricultural labourers.
The meeting was informed that 9,750 labourers have been benefited by the scheme that was launched in 2007 and they have been given Rs.20.11 million under various provisions of the scheme.
The scheme provides social and economic security to landless labourers earning their livelihood mainly in agriculture, horticulture and afforestation works.
Under it, the card holder labourer and his family gets medical facilities, school going children of labourers get scholarships and women labourers are given paid holidays.
Chouhan expressed displeasure mainly over the inordinate delay in distribution of identity cards to the would-be beneficiaries of the scheme.
