Rs.102 mn worth gold, cash robbed from Chennai showroom

Chennai : Gold jewellery and cash worth over Rs.102 million were looted from a shop in the heart of the city Sunday afternoon, the police said.

According to a complaint lodged by salesman Narayan Mukesh, the robbers pretended to be customers and robbed the shop at the knife point seeing him alone.

Officials were non-committal when asked about the daring robbery despite heavy police presence in the most vulnerable parts of the city following the bomb blasts elsewhere in India – especially since the showroom is situated within a kilometre of Chennai’s main rail terminal.

The showroom’s proprietor, Ashok Kumar, was said to be away in Mumbai, the police added.
