Kolkata : The headquarters of the public sector Coal India Ltd Monday received two anonymous calls, threatening to blow up the building.
The bomb disposal squad of the city police rushed to the building and conducted a thorough search of the premises for over three hours, but found nothing.
“On receiving the information, we also sent sniffer dogs. But in the end, it turned out to be a hoax (call). Some prankster must be behind it,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Javed Shamim told IANS.
The Coal India officials said two threatening calls were received at 11.30 a.m. and 11.35 a.m.
“It could be the handiwork of the same person. The first call said there would be a blast at 12 noon, while the second said that the building will be blown up at 12.30 p.m. We immediately informed the police,” an official said.
The building was, however, not evacuated.
