Mohammad Idris was with his mother Sukrabanu at Narol Chokdi Saturday evening when one of the 21 coordinated blasts hit them. The two were rushed to the V.S. Hospital.

Idris suffered serious head injuries as splinters had lodged in his brain. He has been in intensive care and on a ventilator and has not regained consciousness ever since.

Her mother, however, was out of danger, doctors at the V.S. Hospital said.

All India Mahila Congress president Prabha Thakur, who visited the hospital Monday, told the media: “The doctors told me he is on the verge of death. An innocent six-year-old has fallen victim to brutal terror.”

Meanwhile, the Gujarat unit of the Congress took out a silent rally in the afternoon from the Income Tax office circle to the district collector’s office and submitted a memorandum condemning the serial blasts and blaming the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for its alleged failure on the law and order front.

Congress workers took out similar rallies in 225 sub-districts of the state and submitted memoranda to local administrative officers.
