Tehran : Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that Tehran has always underscored the need for expansion of regional cooperation with neighbouring states.
He made the remarks in a meeting with his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi held on the sidelines of the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) foreign ministers meeting.
The meeting opened Tuesday with inaugural speech of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Referring to Iran’s great efforts to establish regional security and tranquility, Larijani said that establishment of peace and security in the region would benefit all regional states.
On recent nuclear talks held between Iran and representatives of the Group 5 1 in Geneva, he said Iran proved its goodwill in the talks. “If the other side respects legitimate rights of the Iranian nation, doors would open for bilateral cooperation,” he added.
Iran’s top nuclear negotiator and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili and the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana reviewed Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme in Geneva on July 19.
Praising Iran’s constructive role in the regional developments, the Omani foreign minister voiced his country’s readiness to further boost all-out ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Voicing his country’s support for Iran’s nuclear programme, he expressed the hope that Iran-EU talks would reach fruitful outcome.
He further referred to Iran as Oman’s ancient and friendly country.
