Jeev Hokkaido (Japan) : Jeev Milkha Singh will attempt another back-to-back effort when he tees up at the Sun Chlorella Classic Thursday. The 36-year-old Indian, who won the Sega Sammy Cup last week despite a hurting ankle is still hampered by the injury, but he will be there to keep his commitment and also because as he puts it, “I am playing very well.”
Jeev will also be buoyed by happy memories of his back-to-back wins in Japan at the end of the 2006 season.
“I have played in Japan for a long time and I enjoy coming here. I have great friends and even the galleries have been an excellent support for me,” said Jeev. “Last week’s triumph was fantastic with an injured ankle. It is not much better, but I will take a break only after this tournament and two events in US next month.”
Jeev has been paired with Japanese legend Masahi Ozaki and Toru Taniguchi in the first round of the tournament.
On Sunday Jeev rallied from a four-shot deficit at the end of three rounds to close the tournament with a six-under 66 that included three birdies in the last four holes and a 20-footer downhill birdie putt on the final hole.
He ended at 13-under 275 and that also carried him to 66th in world rankings as he continues his attempt to achieve the goal of being in the world’s top-50.
