Beijing : Over 450,000 people have been affected by a powerful typhoon in eastern China, the eighth to hit the country this year, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.
The typhoon named Fung Wong, meaning phoenix, leveled over 100 buildings in the worst-hit province of Fujian, forcing 390,000 people to evacuate.
Almost 70 enterprises had to suspend operations, causing economic damages of around $74 million.
Over 100 domestic and international flights have been cancelled to and from Changle International Airport in the provincial capital of Fuzhou.
The typhoon has weakened to a tropical storm and was heading northwest for the Jiangxi Province. It is expected to continue for three more days.
The Fujian observatory said the eye of the typhoon reached Donghan Town with wind speeds of up to 119 km/h (74 mph) and heavy rains.
