Explosion outside Pakistani consulate in W Afghanistan wounds 1 police

Kabul : An explosion outside the consulate of Pakistan in Afghanistan’s peaceful western Herat province wounded at least one police guard on Thursday, an official said.

“It was 11:20 a.m. this morning when some one threw an explosive device towards the consulate of Pakistan in Herat city wounding at least one police,” Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, the spokesman of police in the western region, told Xinhua.

He put the attack on the enemies of peace a termed used against Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan.

However, he said that no one had been arrested in this regard so far.

Taliban militants fighting the Afghan government have yet to comment.

Meantime, locals said that one police guard and two civilians including a woman and a child near the consulate were injured in the blast.

A deadly bomb attack against Indian embassy in Afghan capital Kabul early this month claimed the lives of 41 persons, including two Indians, and injured more than 140 others including two diplomats of the embassy.

In the other incident, Afghan police on Wednesday night raided a house suspected harboring Taliban insurgents in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktiya province, arresting seven militants, said a statement of Interior Ministry released here on Thursday.

Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have left more than 2,500 people dead including militants, troops and civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.
