“While the US is assuring Prime Minister Yusuf Gilani of its respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty, its forces are continuing attacks inside Pakistan,” deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Prof.

Khurshid Ahmed said.

“In the latest attack on a Madrassah in South Waziristan seven persons, including children, were killed. This is most unfortunate and reprehensible,” Prof. Khurshid Ahmad, also leader of the Independent Opposition Group in the Senate said in a statement.

“American assurances amount to nothing but ritual expression of respect for Pakistani’s sovereignty,” he noted.

Saying that the government is failing to safeguard national interests, Prof. Khurshid observed that independence and sovereignty of a nation is respected only when it is prepared to defend it with determination and power rather than through appeals and pleadings.

He said that the US arrogance has crossed all limits as it feels emboldened by lack of appropriate response from the Pakistani forces as well as the political command.

The senator said that it has also been reported that Indian and CIA agents are actively operating inside Pakistan and have a hand in the bloodshed in different parts of the country, including the so-called Shia-Sunni tension in Hangu and other areas.

Seeing no change in the US aggressive policies, Prof Khurshid noted that even an intervention is possible unless Pakistan reviews its attitude and role in the so-called US war on terror.

Though Turkey, Lebanon, North Korea are examples of having acted in their own national interest after refusing to surrender to the US demands, Zardari-Gilani regime in Pakistan is continuing the old policy of complete surrender to the US demands.

“They are only pursuing Musharraf’s policy in total negation to the interests and independence of Pakistan.”
These policies are being imposed on the country against the verdict of the people on 18th February.

“Opinion surveys also show that 90% of the people reject US-Musharraf policies and want a fundamental change,” the senator said.
