Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has decided to set up training institutes for its drivers since government-run buses cause about 900 accidents annually, an official said here Thursday.
“UPSRTC will establish driving institutes in different cities of the state on a public-private-partnership model,” A.K. Srivastava, UPSRTC chief general manager (technical), told IANS.
“The move intends to check the accidents caused by UPSRTC buses. The first training institute for drivers will be established in Kanpur district in about two months,” he added.
According to the operations wing of the UPSRTC, about 900 accidents are caused by the state’s road transport corporation buses every year.
Srivastava said various private companies have already started approaching the UPSRTC for setting up the driving institutes.
At the institutes, the drivers will also learn about the operation of speed control devices and global positioning systems that will be installed in UPSRTC buses, officials said.
About 7,000 buses of UPSRTC ply through various neighbouring states, including Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
