Tokyo : An earthquake of a 6.0 degrees magnitude jolted northern Taiwan Monday, the Tapei-based Central News Agency reported.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake that occurred at 0:59 a.m. (16:59 GMT Sunday).
The quake shook the northeastern county of Yilan, about 70 kilometers east of Taipei.
Earthquakes are frequent in Taiwan, which lies at the intersection of the Philippine and Eurasian plates.
The most destructive was a 7.6-magnitude quake in 1999. It killed more than 2,300 people.
