Police and an official from the Indian high commission said no one was hurt at India House.

An Indian embassy official said ambassador Satyabrata Pal was not at his residence when the explosion occurred. “All other inmates” of the house were safe, the official added.

A large number of security personnel immediately took up positions on the street outside India House. Journalists were kept away.

The police confirmed that the target of the terrorists was the Danish embassy. They linked the attack to cartoons of Prophet Muhammad some newspapers in Denmark published last year.

The cartoons were repeated by another Danish newspaper in April this year, triggering anger in Pakistan.

After that, the embassy moved to the Serena Hotel but the visa section remained at the same venue.
