New Delhi: The Government of Rajasthan must ensure that innocent Muslims are not harassed in the government campaign against Bangladeshis, demanded All India Milli Council (AIMC).
In a letter to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Sindhia, AIMC general secretary Dr Mohammad Manzoor Alam appreciated the chief minister for taking necessary steps to deal with the sensitive situation following the May 13 Jaipur bombings which claimed 67 lives, and maintain peace and normalcy in the state. Alam, however, complained to the chief minister that Muslims of the state are being harassed on pretext of deportation of Bangladeshis and that police are picking up blameless people merely on ground of suspicion.
He stressed that investigations into the blasts must be carried out but neither any particular community should be placed in the ambit of doubt nor human rights should be violated and people taken in custody should not be introduced to the media as criminals unless allegations against them are established.
Dr. Manzoor Alam argued in his letter that the incidents of terrorism occurring in the country are very hideous; therefore, it is very necessary to investigate into them deeply in order to trace their roots. But it appears that intelligence agencies and security forces are not focusing on them seriously. They are giving it only surface treatment and are misleading the country by repeating a few pet names without any investigation in their attempt to escape from their responsibilities and public audit. This is the reason that neither any success could be obtained in checking these incidents nor could the perpetrators of violence be discouraged. He demanded the union and all state governments to investigate into the role of all destructive forces.
Dr. Manzoor stated that blaming any particular community after each incident of terrorism is contrary to the demands of justice and doing so is only synonymous to subjecting that particular community to psychological torture, injure their dignity and prestige and harass them. Moreover, it provides a security cover to real culprits. He communicated that this common feeling among Muslim intellectuals and religious, social and political leaders that anti-Muslim forces inside and outside the country have been plotting to persecute Muslims on pretext of terrorism and the same forces have been misleading the governmental machinery and media.
