Tehran : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who left early Tuesday for Rome to attend a UN food security conference, said his government has clear strategies, proposals and plans for fair distribution of food worldwide, IRNA reported.
“Iran has clear-cut strategies, proposals and plans for fair and appropriate production and distribution of foodstuff worldwide and it can have a determining role in management of affairs in the world today,” Ahmadinejad told reporters at the airport prior to his departure.
Leaders of the world assembled Tuesday in Rome to attend a three-day conference of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to discuss world food security in the backdrop of global warming, growing biofuel demands and a crumbling agriculture sector in most of the developing countries.
The president said he would meet world leaders at the conference to exchange views about various global issues.
The president’s initial plan of meeting Pope Benedict XVI has been cancelled by the Vatican.
Ahmadinejad’s Rome visit would be his first to a European Union member state since June 2005 and his second to the West after he attended the UN Security Council in New York.
