By Xinhua,
Gaza : A Palestinian man died after an underground tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip border town of Rafah collapsed over night, Palestinian security sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said Ramadan Rabie went missing after a tunnel between the Egyptian border and the Gaza Strip collapsed, adding that his body was found on Tuesday.
Palestinian paramedics also extricated four men suffering from severe suffocation and transported them to a hospital.
Several Palestinians have been killed in similar incidents this year.
Local sources in Rafah estimated that hundreds of tunnels were dug under the Egyptian border to be used in smuggling weapons, fuel, medicine and other goods into the besieged Gaza Strip.
Israel has been blockading the coastal territory in an attempt to weaken Hamas, which currently rules Gaza, and end ongoing Palestinian rocket fire at southern Israeli towns.
