Uttar Pradesh to release 2,500 prisoners

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh will release 2,500 prisoners who are old or have served more than half their term, Chief Minister Mayawati announced here Tuesday.

She told reporters that those prisoners who were old and not involved in serious crimes would be released. Those who had already served half their sentence and were eligible to get bail but could not for want of resources would also benefit.
