New Delhi : A city court Wednesday remanded a Delhi Police head constable to 14 days judicial custody for allegedly accepting a bribe from an associate of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar.
Devendra Kumar surrendered in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A.K. Kohar, who gave the ruling.
Amit Kumar was arrested Feb 7 from a hotel near the India-Nepal border and deported to India. He is in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Delhi Police had slapped a case against seven of its men and arrested one of them – Assistant Sub Inspector Ravinder Kumar – for allegedly accepting bribes to allow the kidney transplant racket to flourish.
The racket served clients from Britain, the US, Greece, Lebanon, Canada, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Amit Kumar is believed to have conducted 600 illegal kidney transplants.
