Palestinian National Authority made the decision to open the three stations following Israel’s approval of the plan to ease restrictions for Palestinians in the West Bank, the spokesperson of Israeli Defense Forces told Xinhua.

The Palestinian police are to enforce criminal and public laws to beef up security in the villages, according to the IDF.

Israel had authorized the opening of some 20 new Palestinian police stations across the occupied West Bank. So far, 10 police stations opened out of the 20 stations planned.

Jose Vericat, Press Officer of the EU Police Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support, termed the new stations as “a small step in the right direction.”

The three in the Jenin area will officially open on Sunday.
