London : India’s Surendra Singh wiped out legendary Bahadur Prasad’s 16-year-old national record in 3000 metres men’s event at the St. Mary’s Classic Meeting at the St. Mary’s College in Twickenham here Thursday.
Singh clocked 7:50.31 seconds to wipe out Prasad’s record of 7:56.74s.
In the men’s 800m race, Sajeesh Joseph took advantage of a pacemaker who set the pace of 52 seconds for the first lap to win the race with a timing of 1:47.45s while Rajeev Ramesan finished on third place with 1:48.11s.
In the women’s 1500m race, Sinimole Paulose finished third with 4:14.53 while Preeja Sreedharan shredded four seconds off from her personal best timing clocking 4:18.43s.
Sushma Devi grabbed third position in the women’s 800m with a timing of 2:04.85s while Chaitoli Hamza fought neck-and-neck till the end with European Silver medallist Mo Farah but in the end Mo emerged winner and Hamza remained on second place with 3:43.50s. Teammate Paritam Bind took 3rd place in 3:46.60s.
India’s coach Nikolai was content with the performances and said: “We did well and it also shows the areas we need to work on before we compete in Watford next week.”
