United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the Israeli killing of a Palestinian girl and the injury of her mother in Gaza, and the ongoing rocket and mortar attacks by Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas, from Gaza against crossing points and Israeli civilian targets, his press office said in a statement.
“While recognising Israel’s right to self-defence, the Secretary-General call upon Israel to exercise maximum restraint, and reminds the Israeli Armed Forces of their responsibility to protect civilians under internatinal humanitarian law during military operations,” the statement said Thursday.
Ban also called on Hamas and other militant groups to cease such acts, reminding them that attacks on crossings have “detrimental implications for the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza”.
