The explosive device was planted near a railway track which also damaged two yards of the track at Kali Zarin area of Quetta, the provincial capital, they said.

The part of the track hit the children Khalid, 5, and Hameeda, 3, killing them at the scene, police said.

Train service between Balochistan and southern Sindh province was suspended after the blast, railway authorities said.

Trains heading to the port city of Karachi were stopped near Quetta and authorities said repair of the track will take few hours.

No group claimed responsibility of the blast.

Suspected Baloch insurgents regularly attack railway tracks and gas pipelines as well as security forces in their campaign for more political rights and share in the province’s natural resources.

They are also demanding end to military operation in Balochistan.

Balochistan has seen deadly attacks in recent days.

Two people were killed in a landmine blast in Dera Bugti area of Balochistan on Wednesday.

Unidentified gunmen killed shot dead five cricket players in Quetta on Friday last.
