A spokesperson of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said here Friday that nine drug retailers in Anshan city in the northeast province of Liaoning had been disqualified for selling the drugs illegally.

They were found selling methyltestosterone tablets, testosterone propionate injections and tibolone tablets, all sports performance enhancers the sale of which over the counter is prohibited, Yan Jiangying said.

She said SFDA sent investigation teams to Beijing and other host cities for the 2008 Beijing Olympics – Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao and Qinhuangdao.

Shenzhen, an economically prosperous city bordering Hong Kong, was also on the list to be probed for the illegal dope trade, Yan said.

The investigation teams overhauled local drug manufacturers and traders, signed responsibility contracts with them for banning, producing or selling dopes, Yan said.

An inter-agency supervision group will be formed in late June to strengthen regulations on manufacturing and trading in dopes, she said.
