They together appointed the new chairman and three members of the Uttar Pradesh State Human Rights Commission. The other person who sat with them was assembly Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar.

The venue was none other than 5, Kalidas Marg – the official residence of Mayawati. It was also the first time Yadav went to her chief ministerial residence.

As chief minister, Mayawati is chairperson of the appointments committee for the human rights commission. Yadav is a member by virtue of being the opposition leader in the state assembly.

Politically, they were together only once in a coalition government which collapsed in 1995 after two years.
